FAQs

When did the band begin?

Hot Aire! began in January 1989. However, as many of the original players came from one (or both) of two recently disbanded groups, it could be said the pedigree of the band can be traced back, through the Gilstead Youth Band, to 1956.

Where did the name come from?

Hot Aire! is a play on words; the Aire coming from the name of the river that flows through the valley from where most of the original players lived.  However, the original suggestion for the band's name had been The Firm, until it was spotted that there was a pop group with that name.

The black and white uniform came with the original name suggestion, but stuck. We were all going to wear trench coats and carry violin cases to concerts!
